I was looking for an alternative to the classic electric grill for spontaneous grilling in the house and came across the Tefal OptiGrill +. My goal was to grill meat skewers, sausages and vegetables without having to go through a lot of effort. This 600 watt contact grill offers 6 preset programs for burgers, poultry, sandwiches, sausages, steaks and fish to automatically regulate the temperature depending on the food and to fry it perfectly. The grill plate offers space for 2 - 4 people.

First impression - easy handling?
The Tefal OptiGrill + contact grill is delivered complete and ready to use, nothing more needs to be assembled. Basically, I like such a device very much. The device with dimensions of 37 x 35 x 18 cm and a weight of about 4,8 kilograms has two non-stick coated Plates. These plates with the dimensions of 30 x 20 cm are removable and can be through the Dishwasher cleaned .
The contact grill has a sturdy housing made of black stainless steel. I find it particularly noteworthy that the device never heats up itself during the grilling process, so that a Risk of burns excluded can be.
Unlike the classic electric grill, the Tefal compact grill contains one Juice collecting traywith which the liquids are collected separately. This prevents the juice from running down the sides and, for example, dirtying the table. There are various controls on the handle itself. Various pre-installed grill programs to be selected. In the practical test this means: I take the frozen meat out of the freezer, put it on the grill plate and activate the defrosting program. Without having to change anything, I then press the grill button and the meat is grilled accordingly.

Helpful functions
The Tefal OptiGrill + has a light indication. With this light indicator, which changes color depending on the degree of cooking of the meat, you can always see exactly when the meat has reached the exact state you want. The OptiGrill also emits signal tones at the respective levels.

In addition, the contact grill offers the measurement of the thickness. Regardless of whether you grill for yourself or with others, the grill measures the thickness of the food and as a device automatically adjusts the required grill temperature.
The massive aluminum die-cast grill plates are not only non-stick sealed, they can also be removed and, like the drip tray, are also dishwasher safe. In addition, the grill plates are inclined so that excess fat and grill juice can easily drain into the drip tray.
The 2.000 watts, strong device delivers one own recipe book with which a variety of delicious options can be grilled.
Off to the grill - first try!
For the first test, I bought sausages, neck steak and grilled vegetables. The anticipation was huge, because the OptiGrill actually has a very simple operation. The recipe book serves as a bonus and shows interesting new variations that you would otherwise not have thought of.
What I quickly noticed, however, is that the grill plate is quite limited. In addition to 2 sausages, 1 neck steak and some grilled vegetables, it was already over in terms of space. So I can make room for maximum 2-3 people limit.
To start, simply press a program button and confirm with OK. Now you have to wait until the grill has heated up and from then on the Tefal OptiGrill + takes over the rest. At the end of the grilling process, the device automatically switches to one Warm function. I find this function particularly good if you want to ring in a second round after a while.

With the help of the light indication, you know exactly when the food is ready. In the first test, I found it worth mentioning that there was no big smoke in the kitchen. The integrated temperature control apparently does a good job. The smell was also particularly good, you could already guess something delicious during the grilling process.
After the LED indicated that the meat was ready, I was particularly curious about the taste. The meat and sausages looked good at first glance, but the sausages were more browned from above and below. I can therefore recommend that one leaves a small space between the sausagesso that the heat can get there too.
In the end, the taste test was also convincing. The meat was grilled medium, as I set it in advance. The sausages were also tasty and firm to the bite. The grilled vegetables were browned a little too much, which may be because I grilled everything together on the same setting. I can recommend that different foods are grilled separately.
The test was overall very good, despite minimal effort and the lack of turning of the grilled food!
How is the cleaning?
With the help of the juice collecting tray, the juice from the meat is already collected in an appropriate storage unit. The two grill plates themselves can easily be removed and inserted into the Dishwasher are provided.
The contact grill leaves little residue on the table itself. Since you don't have to turn the grilled food regularly, there are no hard splatters or other marks that need to be cleaned.

The Tefal OptiGrill + absolutely convinced me in the test. The handling is really simple and self-explanatory with the help of pictures. You really only have to press a button, the device does the rest itself.
The result was delicious, and attention must also be paid to the space between the foods. The limited space on the grill plates offers barbecue fun for a maximum of 2-3 people. However, the cooking points were hit particularly well, so that this device convinced in the test.
The price of 225,99 euros is of course higher than that of conventional electric grills. However, if you value convenience, quick cleaning and delicious results, you will be absolutely satisfied with this OptiGrill.
